Mission & Vision
CEDAR is a global educational network enabling members of disparate communities to recognize and accept their differences as they work toward a civil society.
Our Story
The idea of difference as a focus for civic engagement and shared social life emerged in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, in December 2001, as a group of Jews, Christians, and Muslims came together to discuss the role of religion in building a more tolerant and pluralistic world.
How We Work
CEDAR programs combine a unique pedagogy of cognitive learning (lectures) with experiential learning (site visits) and affective learning (group work). This structure, together with its international and diverse body of fellows, provides a powerful experience of transformative knowledge that forces us to challenge our taken for granted assumptions about the self, the other, and the terms of our interaction.
Pedagogic Principles
CEDAR is premised on the fundamental insight that knowledge is collective, not individual.
About Our Logo
CEDAR’s logo is taken from a design that graces the minaret of the Čaršijska Mosque in Stolac, Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Support Us
Since 2003, CEDAR has been bringing together civically committed individuals from all over the world to engage with their differences, challenge their taken-for-granted views of the world, and find a way to live together differently. Learning to live together with difference is a crucial step toward a more stable and peaceful world.
